Baptism

What is baptism all about?
We believe that in the Bible the Lord commands Christians to baptism, as an act of declaring their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior, and full purpose of obedience in holiness and righteousness. Baptism is a symbol of the new covenant. Baptism allows a believer to communicate to the world their heart-felt commitment to Christ.

People often have questions regarding baptism:

Why should I be baptized? To follow the example set forth by Christ. Mark 1:9 tells us that Jesus himself was baptized. Also in the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands us to be baptized and baptize. If we love Jesus, we will obey his commands, like 1 John 2:3 says.

I’ve already been baptized. Do I have to do it again? If you were baptized as an infant or child, then you need to consider being baptized for yourself, it being your decision. We believe baptism is a symbol of the new covenant; young children may be baptized, upon request of parents or guardians who shall give assurance for them of necessary Christian training. Meaning, we encourage parents dedicating their children to God, as an act of faith and appropriate training.
Baptism doesn’t make you a Christian… Only your faith in Christ does. Baptism is like a wedding ring, it is an outward sign of an inward obedience. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Who should be baptized? Every person who believes in Christ. A believer is someone who has realized that their sin has separated them from God. They have given up all efforts to reach God through good works or religious activity and seek to allow the Holy Spirit lead their life. They have concluded that Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for their sins is the only thing that can bridge the gap between them and God. A believer is someone who has decided to trust Christ alone for their salvation. If you have come to that point in your spiritual journey, then you are ready to be baptized. (Acts 2:37-41, 8:12-13)

Does it matter if someone is sprinkled or dunked? Baptism may be administered by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion, according to the choice of the applicant.
